Subject: An Embarrassment of Riches
As John mentions during the show, playing on the left coast, in San Francisco, is a dream come true for the band, together 26 years at this point (41 years as of the date of this review and still going strong).
And Lord do they deliver a stunning performance. Mr Soundman was even deep in the groove as this is a gorgeous sounding show. In Harmony blissfully begins the show. As so many songs this evening, the final jam is just so good and more often then not Scott is the leader of the wave, which is the way we like it. It's not a one gear Rock Star Scott, but his playing is so nuanced and heartfelt. Rainbow is solid as is Sailin' Shoes. Borrowing Time and Free Born Man just flat out rock.
I Will Always See Your Face > Calling Elvis > You Let Me Down Again is a 37 minute sandwich to close out frame one. I'll leave the review up to you, as I am already gushing and burning up all my adjectives.
Love Makes You Lose Your Mind kicks arse, and what song title can be more true? Funky at times, but when Scott gets that hook going it's time to start dancing on the tables, clothing optional. As usual for this show, the ending jam is money, with a little spacey jazz on the side before Season of the Witch. Mark really hasn't had his moment yet, though Sailin' Shoes and Calling Elvis are very good. He owns Season of the Witch on this night. Their are many different sides to this song, and I often do not like it b/c it's hard to hit all the bases just right. Again, on this night it's just exactly perfect throughout and especially as it builds to its conclusion. One question though boys. "Stoned people out to make you rich?"
I gotta go, but Feelin' Alright is the best cover song they do period. And this one lives up to such praise. Poetry is not for me. July, Your a Woman is. Now, you go see about the rest of that second set.
